To meet the needs of justice involved individuals, Family Wellness Warriors collaborates within the community to provide tools for developing healthy relationships and reducing recidivism. Reentry services are aligned with the FWW concept of Nu’iju, returning to self. The word “return” also promises the hope of one day returning as a whole person to family and community, which is the end goal of any kind of recovery.
Reentry Learning Circles
Learning Circles are peer-led support groups where justice involved individuals are welcome and understood without judgment. This is a safe community where people can talk about the struggle of reentry, and the challenge of connecting with family and community. Reentry Learning Circles are hosted onsite at Partners For Progress Reentry Center.

Nu’iju Healing Place
Nu’iju Healing Place is a 12-month culturally rooted, trauma-informed therapeutic community for individuals in corrections. The program operates from the strengths of Alaska Native and Native American people to end cycles of abuse by working as a closed program within a correctional setting. Areas of focus include trauma recovery, addiction recovery, education and life skills, and healthy relationship skills, all woven together with culture and spirituality at their center.
“It gave me a place where I could experience my fears and anxieties without being judged and allowed me to examine why I did some of the things I did and figure out how to overcome those behaviors.”
– Participant, Unangax
“After my release, I felt like I didn’t fit. I felt like the world left me behind and nothing was the same … Learning Circles gave me a place to connect with people who are going through or have gone through it themselves.”
– Participant, Yup’ik
